Is the talent show going to be live on stage with an audience this year? Auditions, rehearsals and performances will happen on stage in the school auditorium WITHOUT A LIVE AUDIENCE. We will release a recorded, edited version of the show on May 6, 2022.
When is the talent show? The talent acts will be recorded in the auditorium on Saturday, April 9th and the final, edited video of the show will be released via an unlisted link online at 6pm on Friday, May 6, 2022. How do I register? Come back to this page between February 16th and February 25th and click on the registration link!
If I am in a group act, can I just do one registration for the whole group? No, every member of the group needs to complete individual registrations so that we can collect contact information and permission agreements from your grown-ups.
How do I sign up to perform in the 5th Grade Dance? Every 5th grader should have received the links to the choreography for this year’s 5th Grade Dance Song “Sunday Best” by Surfaces.
If you are a 5th grader and interested in performing in the 5th grade dance for the talent show, you must fill out the talent show registration form by 2/25
Do I have to pick an audition slot if I only want to be in the 5th Grade Dance or a 5th Grade Interstitial Sketch or Commercial?
No, you only need to sign up for an audition slot if you are performing in a solo act or a group act
Auditions are not required for the other 5th grade related talent show performances
That said, you still need to register
Can I do an SNL inspired sketch if I am not a 5th grader? Yes, you can choose to do one as your 90 second solo or group act. But, like song choice, SNL characters are first come first serve.
The following characters/classic skits have already been reserved for the 5th grade commercials and interstitials: The Californians, Weekend Update, NPR's Delicious Dish, PBS Telethon, PBS Kids Science Room, Spartan Cheerleaders, and Flight Attendants.
Since it is a virtual show, I prefer to record at home or do a different kind of talent act rather than have my performance recorded on stage. That's understandable and we can be flexible with these kinds of preferences.
You will still need to register to participate in the talent show, so that we can get your grown-up’s permission to include your talent act in the final video
You will also need to schedule an audition (onstage or via Zoom) to discuss or perform your act
And finally, you will also still need to rehearse (or meet) with the director at least two times (onstage or via Zoom) before recording your talent act
When are talent show auditions? Auditions will be held in the auditorium on 2/28 and 3/2 from 3-6pm. There will also be a Zoom Audition Option on 3/1 online from 3-6pm.
What safety measures are you taking during the audition and rehearsal process?
Masks will be required for all performers and volunteers
Social distancing will be enforced to the greatest extent possible
The rehearsals will be held similar to auditions in that acts will need to sign up for a specific time slot in an effort to limit the number of people in the auditorium
We will be keeping track of general and close contacts in the case we need to do contact tracing
Do I need to be vaccinated in order to perform in the talent show? Vaccination against Covid-19 is not currently required for performers. That said, volunteers must have official clearance through the school district and that clearance currently requires vaccination (https://www.burbankusd.org/volunteer).
I am singing a song for my talent act… do I have to wear a mask during my performance? At this time, everyone is required to wear a mask. However, we are continuing to research ideas for how to record the solo singing acts in a safe way. You are also welcome to record your solo singing act on your own at home, if you prefer not to wear a mask.
If I am in a group act and choose to record at home instead of on stage, does everyone in the group have to wear masks during the performance? Whether you perform/record on campus or at home, everyone will need to follow the school rules regarding masking (around non-family members) that are in place at the time of the filming.
Can I write my own song or sketch? Absolutely. We encourage original works.
Can I do a performance that is shorter than 90 seconds? Yes.
Can I do a performance that is longer than 90 seconds? No.
I would like to be a part of the talent show but I don’t want to perform. Email the director at [email protected] and she will help brainstorm ideas for how you can get involved!
Will anyone be taking photos for the yearbook? Unfortunately, Yearbook photos are due by March 25th so only part of the process will make it in.
During the rehearsal on March 16th, our official talent show photographer will be taking a group photo of the 5th grade dancers as well as taking some candid shots during the rehearsal.
Our team will also be taking photos throughout the process, and during tech and dress rehearsals.
What do you mean when you say that I need to email an edited version of an mp3 file to you? If you are using a song in your act, we need to have a copy of it so we can play it on the sound system during your audition, rehearsals and performance.
The song should be cut to 90 seconds in length.
If your act is “singing a song,” you need to provide a track with no singing on it…aka an instrumental or karaoke track.
If you need help cutting your song or finding a karaoke version, please email us at [email protected] and we can help!
Where do I send my edited mp3 file? Please email it to [email protected] by February 27th.
Wait! I have more questions that you didn’t answer here! Great! Email your questions to [email protected] and the director will get back to you asap.
